In 2011, the Federal Government announced a new Sustainable Regional Development Program, which aims to ensure that future changes in population are compatible with the sustainability of our economy, communities and the environment. Regional sustainability plans will be developed for identified growth areas across Australia, including the Perth-Peel region in Western Australia. The initiative will be implemented through collaborative planning processes involving Federal, State and Local Governments, to ensure that development and growth is managed and that environmental, social and economic objectives are achieved in these key regions. The Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPaC) has convened an expert working group to provide input to the development of appropriate sustainability planning processes through which the regional sustainability plans can be developed. Integral Sustainability is delighted that Director Jenny Pope has been invited to participate in the Experts’ Workshop in February.
