Abstract:
This presentation provides a succinct overview of the proposed Stirling City Centre and describes the local and metropolitan issues that were pivotal in catalysing the resolution to form a planning and delivery Alliance between local and state government.
The presentation argues that we are living in a watershed moment in history. The peaks in climate stability and resource availability are occurring at a global and regional scale, and are characterised by rapid, non linear change. These issues are occurring at a time of rapid technological innovation in sectors as diverse as energy generation, storage and distribution, as well as continuing advances in information and communication technologies. It has been argued that waves of technological innovation underpin periods of growth and renewal, and we may be at the cusp of such a moment. It is argued these technologies should be incorporated into urban design to create the so called Resilient City.
The presentation provides a definition of green and distributed infrastructure and summarises the existing Green Infrastructure Council Rating Tool. A summary of best practice national and international case studies integrating these principles is provided. The presentation concludes with a summary of the proposed elements of a future green infrastructure system at Stirling City Centre, and includes a description of the Green Infrastructure Evaluation Framework and associated sustainability benefits.
